The phase behavior of several polybibenzoates with oxyalkylene spacers has been reported [11,14,15,20-27]. These spacers include the dimer of trimethylene glycol and different ethylene oxide oligomers. The most noticeable characteristic of these polybibenzoates with ether groups in the spacer is the considerable decrease of the rate of the mesophase-crystal transformation. Thus, Fig. 8 shows the DSC curves corresponding to a sample of poly[oxybis(trimethylene)p,p -bibenzoate], PDTMB, with a structure similar to that of P7MB but with the... [Pg.387]

Huot et al. [38] used affinity chromatography to identify and partially purify an amiloride-binding protein with characteristics of the renal brush border Na /H exchanger. The high-affinity amiloride analog A35 (5-A-(3-aminophenyl)amiloride) was coupled to Sepharose CL-4B through a triglycine spacer. Rabbit renal brush border membranes were solubilized with 0.6% Triton X-100, incubated with the... [Pg.257]

Effects of spacer groups on the formation and properties of the mixed-valence states of conjugated ferrocene dimers have been extensively studied by both electrochemical and spectroscopic methods. It should be noted that a characteristic feature in the electronic spectra of ferrocene dimers with conjugated spacer groups is the appearance of metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) bands in the neutral form as well as IT bands in the mixed-valence state. The dimer Fc — CH=CH — Fc... [Pg.60]

Proton-coupled intramolecular electron transfer has been investigated for the quinonoid compounds linked to the ferrocene moiety by a 7r-conjugated spacer, 72 (171) and 75 (172). The complex 72 undergoes 2e oxidation in methanol to afford 74, which consists of an unusual allene and a quinonoid structure, with the loss of two hydrogen atoms from 72 (Scheme 2). The addition of CF3SO3H to an acetonitrile solution of 74 results in two intense bands around 450 nm, characteristic of a semi-quinone radical, and a weak broad band at lOOOnm in the electronic... [Pg.77]

Figure 29. For the latter case, it is considered that the semiconducting re-electron systems are separated by insulating hydrocarbon spacers, resulting in alternate thin layers of organic semiconductor and insulator in these monolayer assemblies. The direct current - voltage (I - V) characteristics were mea- sured for the multilayers H2Pc(R)8 and Cu-Pc(R)8 in directions perpendicular and parallel to the film plane. In both cases, the linear I - V relationships of Ohm s law were observed at low electric field and obtained DC conductivities are summarized in Table 3. The normal conductivity (ajJ were ca. 10 13 S cm-1, while the lateral ones p//) were 3.4 x 10-7 and 9.9 x 10 7 S cm 1 for films of the metal-free and copper Pc derivatives, respectively. The former (ojJ tended to decrease slightly with increase of Figure 29. Schematical illustration of the substituent alkyl chain length,... Figure 29. It is important to emphasize that the introduction of a spacer should never affect the binding characteristics of the support. The selected spacer must not introduce any charges and should not be sufficiently hydrophobic to cause any kind of non-specific interaction. Several molecules can fulfill this demand but only a few of them are regularly used. Most of these contain terminal amino or carboxylic groups. In particular these are diaminodipropyl amine, 6-aminocapronic acid, 1,6-diaminohexane, ethylenediamine, l,3-diamino-2-propanol, succinic acid, 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether, and others [96]. Extensive description of other bifunctional reagents can be found in the book of Wong [89]. [Pg.180]
