Southwest State University

As in the other universities, the holistic principle constitutes the base of chemistry education in Southwest State University (SSU) situated in Kursk. The environmental issues as well as green chemistry are involved in teaching courses of nearly all chemistry disciplines provided hy the Department of Chemistry of SSU (Head, Associate Prof. O.V. Burykina). During the course of inorganic chemistry attention is paid to the impact of chemicals (sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, ions of heavy metals, pesticides, surfactants) on vital functions of living organisms. [Pg.234]

Stanley C. Israel, Southwest Texas State University I find the number one factor in the success of our students is peer-to-peer mentoring. If we can get them involved in peer-to-peer mentoring and get them involved in the learning community, they will almost universally be successful. [Pg.30]

Stanley C. Israel, Southwest Texas State University If we are talking about the chemical workforce, there is a part of the chemical workforce that we have not addressed except tangentially, and that is the K-12 teachers. [Pg.137]

The authors are grateful to T. White, who performed some of the preliminary measurements, and to the Computer Center at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, on whose IBM 360 the calculations were done. Acknowledgment is made to the Donors of the Petroleum Research Fund (Grant 9725-B5), administered by the American Chemical Society, for complete support of this research. [Pg.277]

The authors are grateful to T. White and R. Snelling who assisted in performing such preliminary work as recrystallization, standardization of solutions, etc., and also to the computer center of Southwest Missouri State University for providing the computational facilities. [Pg.297]

The success of this reaction is critically dependent on forming a thick emulsion, for only then will the surface between the two phases be large enough for complete reaction to occur. James Wilbur at Southwest Missouri State University found that when freshly distilled, pure reagents were used, no exothermic reaction occurred, and very little or no di-chloronorcarane was formed. We have subsequently found that old, impure cyclohexene gives very good yields of product. Cyclohexene is notorious... [Pg.514]
