Sources of Intelligence

Noting that the written record should be intelligibly prepared so that others may benefit from its study (26), Crowley urged readers to examine a sample from an advanced student published in the same issue of The Equinox. He boldly asserted that the more scientific the record is, the better (26). He also cautioned that The A.A. will not take official notice of any experiments which are not thus properly recorded (25). The vision of scientific method that Crowley expressed in The Equinox would certainly have conformed to his own education in scientific research under Ramsay and Collie at London and at Cambridge. For Crowley, scientific illuminism would be characterized by meticulous and objective record keeping of laboratory experiments, a concern about possible sources of error, the broader research community s access to other scientists research results, and the sanctioning of practices by an authorizing body. 

The ideas person The source of original ideas and proposals, he or she is a creative and intelligent member, but can be careless of details. 

Perhaps one could so transcend the pain and discomfort caused by such pressure that one could be described as wholeheartedly resisting these forces (successfully or not). In this case, if it is intelligible, one would have succeeded in externalizing the desire, thereby transmuting it from a source of attraction or temptation into a physical tension. To be defeated in this case would no more be a misdirection of the will than would be the failure of the wholehearted attempt to resist the force of the boulder. Yielding to pressure would not in this instance be voluntary movement.11 If this example as described makes sense at all, however, it is hardly the typical case in which we tend to speak of compulsive desire. 

The medical use of botanicals in their natural and unprocessed form undoubtedly began when the first intelligent animals noticed that certain food plants altered particular body functions. Much information exists about the historical use and effectiveness of botanical products. Unfortunately, the quality of this information is extremely variable. One of the most complete compendiums of clinical recommendations regarding the use of botanicals is the Report of the German Commission E (a committee that sets standards for herbal medications in that country Blumenthal, 2000). Interest in the endocrine effects and possible nutritional benefits of certain purified chemicals such as dehydroepiandrosterone. melatonin, high-dose vitamins, and minerals has led to a parallel development of consumer demand for such substances. These substances, together with the botanicals, constitute a substantial source of profits for those who exploit the concept of "alternative medicine."...
