Solvent silica

A number of cement materials are used with brick. Standard are phenolic and furan resins, polyesters, sulfur, silicate, and epoxy-based materials. Carbon-filled polyesters and furanes are good against nonoxidizing acids, salts, and solvents. Silica-filled resins should not be used against hydrofluoric or fluosihcic acids. Sulfur-based cements are limited to 93°C (200°F), while resins can be used to about 180°C (350°F). The sodium silicate-based cements are good against acids to 400°C (750°F). [Pg.2453]

A mixture of powdered poly(vinyl chloride), cyclohexanone as solvent, silica, and water is extruded and rolled in a calender into a profiled separator material. The solvent is extracted by hot water, which is evaporated in an oven, and a semiflexible, microporous sheet of very high porosity ( 70 percent) is formed [19]. Further developments up to the 75 percent porosity have been reported [85,86], but these materials suffer increasingly from brittleness. The high porosity results in excellent values for acid displacement and electrical resistance. For profiles, the usual vertical or diagonal ribs on the positive side, and as an option low ribs on the negative side, are available [86],... [Pg.275]

The use of surface-enhanced resonance Raman spectroscopy (SERRS) as an identification tool in TLC and HPLC has been investigated in detail. The chemical structures and common names of anionic dyes employed as model compounds are depicted in Fig. 3.88. RP-HPLC separations were performed in an ODS column (100 X 3 mm i.d. particla size 5 pm). The flow rate was 0.7 ml/min and dyes were detected at 500 nm. A heated nitrogen flow (200°C, 3 bar) was employed for spraying the effluent and for evaporating the solvent. Silica and alumina TLC plates were applied as deposition substrates they were moved at a speed of 2 mm/min. Solvents A and B were ammonium acetate-acetic acid buffer (pH = 4.7) containing 25 mM tributylammonium nitrate (TBAN03) and methanol, respectively. The baseline separation of anionic dyes is illustrated in Fig. 3.89. It was established that the limits of identification of the deposited dyes were 10 - 20 ng corresponding to the injected concentrations of 5 - 10 /ig/ml. It was further stated that the combined HPLC-(TLC)-SERRS technique makes possible the safe identification of anionic dyes [150],... [Pg.468]

Pyrazolo[3,4-Z)]pyridines, the 7-chloro-6-fluoro-2,4-dimethylquinoline and its mercapto-thiadiazolyl or oxadiazolyl quinolines 21 were prepared via Diels-Alder reaction conversion of methyl 2-(3-oxo-3-phenylpropenylamino)benzoate into 3-benzoyl-l.S -quinolin-4-one 22 . A mixture of aniline derivatives and malonic ester gave a variety of 3-aryl-4-hydroxyquinolin-2(l//)-ones 23. Condensation of isatins with ketones afforded quinoline-4-carboxylic acids. 2-Aryl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydro-4-quinolinones 22 and carbazolylquinolone were also prepared. The substitution of 2-chloroquinoline gave the 2-substituted quinolines. Basic alumina has catalyzed the C-C bond formation between 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone and 2-chloroquinoline derivative to give 21. Reaction of organic halides with 8-hydroxyquinolines gave the respective ethers. The azodye derivatives of 21 were prepared in the absence of solvent. Silica gel catalyzed the formation of 2-ketomethylquinolines from reaction of 2-methylquinolines with acyl chlorides. [Pg.4]

Bovenzi et al. (1995) examined 21 patients (16 women, 5 men) with SSc or localized variants of scleroderma. A significant association was found between exposure to organic solvents (aromatic hydrocarbons) and SSc (3 men, 1 woman). Among the male subjects, an increased odds ratio for SSc was observed for exposure to organic solvents, silica dust, and hand-transmitted vibration. Exposure to solvents and other chemicals was associated, albeit not significantly, with SSc among the women. [Pg.307]

Use hexane as the elution solvent, silica gel (containing a fluorescent indicator) as the stationary phase, and UVUgbt for visualization, laical values are (E)-stilbene 0.21 (Z)-stilbene, 0.27. [Pg.301]

The purity of the product may be checked using thin-layer chromatography (see Technique 6A). Dissolve a small amount of the starting aldehyde and the product in ethanol and apply a sample to the TLC plate. Use toluene as the elution solvent, silica gel (containing a fluorescent indicator) as the stationary phase, and UV Hgbt for visualization. Typical Rf values are 0.92 for trans-9-(2-phenylethenyl)anthracene and 0.50 for 9-anthraldehyde. [Pg.307]

We have studied self-diffusion in polymer-like networks self-diffusion of transient chains (long entangled micelles) and tracer diffusion in the solvent (silica gels). Our results illustrate the role of reversible chain breaking and the scale-dependence of diffusion in the solvent. [Pg.285]
