Solvent bilayers containing long-chain

A novel application of PILs was the use of liquid crystals of 7V-alkylimidazolium PILs as a solvent for the Diels—Alder reaction. The alkyl group contained an even number of between 10 and 18 carbons, with these long alkyl chains leading to a bilayer solvent structure. The use of this partially ordered solvent gave a selectivity of the exo product of 54%, where normally the endo product is dominant. [Pg.21]
