Solvent-Based Paints and Lacquers

The classic systems are solvent-based paints and lacquers. Examples of these are shellac in alcohol or nitrocelluloses in alcohol/ether. They have become continuously less important because of their relative high cost, their not especially good properties, and the costs of labor and pollution control. But since the other newly developed paints and lacquers require high investment costs, low-solvent (that is, high-solids) systems with not more than about 20% solvents have been developed that can be applied with conventional equipment. [Pg.785]
