His obligatory year in the Prussian army left him with a smart, military manner and a love of rank and discipline. His attempts to become a reserve officer failed, however, for this was a prestigious honor reserved for Christians, and Haber was Jewish. 

Semet-Solvay The Semet-Solvay Engineering Corporation, Syracuse, NY, was best known for its coke-oven technology, developed from the end of the 19th century. The eponymous process was a cyclic, non-catalytic process for making fuel gas from oil. 

The industry faces many challenges. There are still savings to be made with the use of technology to meet energy consumption controls, environmental restrictions, economies of scale and profitability limits. There is also the need for the industry to attract good managers as producers have been attracted to life sciences . I am sure a new entrepreneur of the calibre of a Solvay, Castner or Kellner will emerge in the next century. 

The primary product in the slurry units is HDPE with MDPE as a secondary product. With single-site catalysts production of mLLDPE in slurry loop reactors is also possible. Today for example, Chevron Phillips, BP Solvay, Basell, Borealis and Sumitomo Mitsui have their own slurry process technology-... 

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. has been selected to supply a hydrocarbon and nitrogen recovery system for a new polyethylene manufacturing plant in Baytown, TX. The plant will be owned by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company and Solvay Polymers, Inc. The recovery system uses partial condensation in conjunction with Air Products pressure swing adsorption technology to recover hydrocarbons in the polyolefin plants, and recycle nitrogen with a purity of greater than 99%55. 

Solvay process in recent years, and no synthetic sodium carbonate has been produced in the United States since 1986. However, the Solvay process is still a major technology for soda ash production in Europe and elsewhere, most notably in China.
