High bond strengths are obtained between ENR and steel using a standard Chemlok (205,220) two-coat system with the steel sandblasted and degreased prior to bonding. Samples tested at a peel angle of 90° had bond strengths in excess of 9 5 N/mm for both ENR-25 and ENR-50 in a soluble EV formulation (S, 0-5 MBS, 1 2 TBTD, 0 5 phr). In both cases failure occurred in the rubber, and not at the bond. [Pg.108]

A number of antioxidants were examined for solubility in the monomer, effect upon the photoinitiator, UV stability, effect upon physical properties of the cured coating and their effectiveness as stabilizers. The addition of hydrogen donors, HD-2 or HD-3, or a hindered amine light stabilizer, HALS-1, improves the stability of a cured epoxy acrylate system with a minimal change in the physical properties of the resin. DSC and oxygen absorption measurements show that the secondary hindered amine, HALS-1, imparts the best stability to the resin. [Pg.310]

Although the term paint has been used for latex-based systems as well as many others, traditionally it refers to one of the oldest coating systems known—that of a pigment combined with a drying oil, usually a solvent. Drying oils (e.g., linseed, tung), by virtue of their multiple unsaturation, behave like polyfunctional monomers which can polymerize ( dry ) to produce film by a combination of oxidation and free-radical propagation. Oil-soluble metallic soaps are used to catalyze the oxidation process. [Pg.259]
