Solid state methods

As an example of the application of the solid-state methods described above, we show the spectra of the naphthalene radical cation in different media236 (Figure 26). Note the increase in spectroscopic resolution and the extension of the range of observation into the UV when using argon matrices. [Pg.235]

Bill, I think this is a multivibrator and not a relay at all. It was the pre-solid state method of making an AC signal out of a DC input, probably from an old telephone system or vacuum tube driver. You will note that there are no connections from the coils to any of the terminals, except through the contacts (I expect the coils are connected to their respective end contacts). So both contacts on one side will be closed to complete a circuit - when power is applied these contacts will open and the opposite pair close and it just keeps doing this at its resonate frequency. There is one thing for sure - it is not operating as a relay in any way at all. [Pg.17]

Materials. All phosphors used In this study were prepared by solid state methods previously reported. LaOBr Tb and LaOBr Tm phosphors were prepared by a molten KBr flux recrystallization method (8) which gives clear, single crystal... [Pg.203]

Most modern materials are formed empirically by solid-state methods. These methods generally involve more processing activity than chemical synthesis (for example, sintering of ceramic powders, modifying concrete by polymers, thermomechanical processing of alloys, layering polymeric membranes for... [Pg.6]

The demand for advanced materials with superior mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, magnetic, electro-optical, and electromagnetic properties is ever increasing. Most advanced materials, until recently, have been formed empirically by solid state methods. Further progress in the generation of advanced materials with preselected properties demands innovative chemical tailoring and, thus, a fundamental understanding of interactions and reactions at atomic, molecular, and supramolecular levels. [Pg.256]

The scope of the paper is to review the application of different NMR techniques, particularly the high resolution solid state methods, to crosslinked polymers and the potential of each particular technique in the investigation of network structure and dynamics at the molecular level. [Pg.9]

A similar solid state method for the preparation of cyclic polymer has been reported. This method involves the synthesis of cyclic polymer obtained by a combination of inter-alkylation and intra-alkylation, i.e., cyclization of 11-bromo-decanoic acid. The cyclic polymer can be liberated from an anionic exchange resin. Thus, this method has the advantage that the cyclic product from the mixture after reaction is easily produced, as indicated in Fig. 50 [161]. [Pg.165]

Few reports have discussed the structures of Mo V Te Nb oxide catalysts in relation to propane oxidation and ammoxidation. Some reports indicate that not only the elemental composition but also preparative variables greatly affect the structure and performance of Mo-V-Te Nb oxide catalysts. Among the preparative variables, methods for precursor preparation appear to be critical. One example is Mo V Te-Nb oxide, which when prepared by a sohd-state method from corresponding oxides of each element is a mixture of M0O3 and (Mo-X)50i4 (X is other cations) and is inactive for the propane ammoxidation. However, Mo-V-Te-Nb oxide prepared by a hydrothermal reaction method from the same oxide by the solid-state method is a mono-phasic oxide with an orthorhombic layered structure, which selectively catalyzes propane to acrylonitrile. ... [Pg.3389]

Although some of the initial studies of olefin rotation employed solid-state methods, relatively few studies have been carried out recently. Studies of relaxation in the solid-state... [Pg.4566]

Since it was not possible to prepare the infinite-layer Sri CaxCu02 materials previously using conventional solid-state methods, it is important to clarify what features of PLD enable the general synthesis of this new phase. Structural studies of the Sri xCaxCu02 products obtained from PLD... [Pg.4853]

The solid-state method requires high temperature heating or high mechanical energy for diffusion of reactants. Synthesis in liquid phase is useful to prepare solid compounds that contain the different cations in an ideally atomic dispersion. There are two methods concerning this concept one is a precursor method and the other is a co-precipitation method. [Pg.63]

The "liquid state" in-situ NMR studies made here probe the reactions of physisorbed, and possibly in part chemisorbed, species. NMR studies of olefins adsorbed on acidic catalysts have difficulty evidencing the olefinic nature of the initial chemisorbed species [2,6,7]. This is probably because they are short-lived (e g. carbenium ions) or have poor spectroscopic properties (e g. broad lines). These problems are not resolved by magic angle spinning and solid state methods. [Pg.569]
