Solid/liquid separation leaf filter

Solid sulfur is dumped on the grids of the melter and is melted by means of the heat provided through steam coils in the melter. An agitator installed in the melter helps to melt the sulfur at a faster rate. Liquified sulfur is pumped to the pressure leaf filter and the purified sulfur stored in a separate compartment equipped with steam coils. Sulfur pumps are used to feed the liquid sulfur to the sulfur burner at a... [Pg.9]

The material to be filtered is fed into the vessel under pressure, and separation takes place with the solids being deposited on the leaf surface, and the liquid passing through the drainage system and out of the filter. Cycle times are determined by pressure, cake capacity or batch quantity. Where particularly fine solids must be removed, a layer of precoat material may be deposited on the leaves prior to filtration, using diatomaceous earth, Perlite, or other suitable precoat materials. [Pg.400]

In the filtration process, a liquid containing suspended solids is passed through a porous medium. The solids are trapped against the medium, and the separation of solids from liquids results. For large solid particles, a thick barrier such as sand may be used for smaller particles, a fine filter such as a filter cloth is preferable. Fluid passage may be induced by gravity, positive pressure, or a r acuum. A few of the more popular filter fypes are the plate and frame filter press, and shell and leaf and cartridge filters. [Pg.153]
