Solgel methods

Pyridinium / -toluenesulfonate, 5°, 1 h." Similar selectivity can be achieved using a silica-alumina gel prepared by the solgel method. ... [Pg.61]

The precipitation methods always have the disadvantage that the stoichiometry of the precipitate (s) may not be exact if one or more ions are left in solution. The solgel method overcomes this because the reactants never precipitate out. First, a concentrated solution or colloidal suspension of the reactants, the sol , is prepared, which is then concentrated or matured to form the gel . This homogeneous gel is then heat-treated to form the product. The main steps in the sol-gel process are outlined in Figure 3.3. [Pg.154]

Another approach is the introduction of some transition metals, such as Cr, V, Fe, Cu, Mn, Co, Ni, Mo, and La into the synthesis mixture of the MCM-41, MMS with a Si/Me ratio of 80 [85], It was then demonstrated that the presence of the transition metal salts in the gel during the hydrothermal synthesis process hinders the action of the template, which results in MCM-41 pores that are not well formed. These materials were then loaded with TiOz, via the solgel method, and the activity of the Ti02/TM-MCM-41 catalysts in the degradation of the 4-chlorophenol reaction was tested in the presence of UV and/or visible light. It was shown that although some metals are deleterious, others can improve the performance of photocatalysts and even enable them to utilize visible light [85],... [Pg.431]

Different methods have been used to deposit microporous thin films, including solgel, pyrolysis, and deposition techniques [20], Porous inorganic membranes are made of alumina, silica, carbon, zeolites, and other materials [8], They are generally prepared by the slip coating method, the ceramic technique, or the solgel method (Section 3.7). In addition, dense membranes are prepared with metals, oxides, and other materials (Chapter 2). [Pg.468]

The electrocatalytic materials were deposited onto ceramic sheets in the form of nanosized parricle-containing inks. The electrocatalytic ink was prepared from carbon black-supported antimony-doped tin oxide. Comparisons were made between the commercially available Sb-doped SnOa as well as the Sb-doped Sn02 prepared by a solgel method. [Pg.1081]

Since then, HP became a widely used technique to prepare transparent spinel ceramics. For example, HP process was used to fabricate MgAl204 transparent ceramics, with a nearly 100 % densification [44]. Spinel powders for the production of transparent polyciystalline ceramic windows were produced by using both the traditional ceramic solid-state reaction and solgel methods. Among them, the powders produced from the reaction of organomagnesium compounds with surface modified boehmite precursors were best to produce high-quality transparent spinel ceramics. The powder synthesis method allowed fine control over the particle size. [Pg.476]

The tested catalysts were perovskites of ASnOs (A s Ca, Sr, Ba) general formula. They were obtained either from oxygenated (SnO, Ca, Sr or Ba acetate, carbonate or oxide) or from chlorinated (SnCl4) precursors using a soLgel method as described below. [Pg.608]

To study the optical and photophysical properties of in microemulsion we have used Ti02 NPs which are synthesized by solgel method as described earlier. The microemulsion was prepared using the following composition (2g NaLS/1.8cc water/ 46.5 cc cyclohexane/9.5 cc 1-butanol). The diameter of this water pool is around 4-5 nm. Pileni et al. [22] have shown an empirical relation between Wg and r as r = 1.5 Wq (where r is the radius of the water pool for microemulsion). According to Adhikari et al. [23], the water droplet size is 4.2nm in the present microemulsion studied. T1O2 NPs in this study can just fit in the water pool (Figure 18.1). [Pg.486]

Benicewicz s group evaluated the durability of the fuel cell with the PBI membranes prepared by solgel method [55]. They also reported a very good steady-state long-term durability of greater than 14,000 h at 120°C at 0.2 A cm" without external humidification [55]. [Pg.360]

The technique developed by Solvay (ref. 1) to prepare PSZs ceramics using a SOLGEL method allows to produce powders of monodisperse spherical porous particles, the mesoporosity of which disappears around 1000°C. [Pg.668]
