Solanum paniculatum

The 3 -azido-derivative of diosgenin has been used to prepare 5a-, 6a-, 6/5-, 7a-, and 7 -hydroxy-3/5-amino-25/ -spirostans, thereby confirming the structure of the aglycone SPA III obtained by hydrolysis of a glucoside from Solanum paniculatum as 3 -amino-6a-hydroxy-25K-spirostan.

Five glycosides of the two new (25/ )-3 -amino-5a,22aO-spirostanes, isojurubidine and its 6a-hydroxy derivative isojuripidine, have been isolated from Solatium paniculatum (99,100), the structures of which may be of the same type as that of jurubine, the (255)-3)3-amino-5a-furostane 22a,26-diol-0(26)-j -D-g ucopyranoside from the same species and from Solanum torvum (112,168,169 cf. 3), but their structures have not yet been elucidated.
