In addition to the ignition and fire hazard posed by the oxidation of the metal hydrides, other safety factors must also be considered. The oxidation reaction products may be unstable, toxic, or otherwise hazardous. For example, the reactions described in Table 4.1 that result in sodium superoxide could result in the production of friction-sensitive materials and may add risk to the disassembly of handling contaminated hydrogen storage materials.
