Sodium di(ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (Aerosol-OT) [577-11-7] M 444.6. Dissolved in MeOH and inorganic salts which ppted were filtered off. Water was added and the solution was extracted several times with hexane. The residue was evaporated to one fifth its original volume, benzene was added and azeotropic distillation was continued until no water remained. Solvent was then evaporated. The white solid was crushed and dried in vacuum over P2O5 for 48h [El Seoud and Fendler J Chem Soc, Faraday Trans I 71 452 /9751. [Pg.469]

When Wiberg and Pracht (1972b) synthesized 3,3-di-(trimethylsilyl)-l-phenyltri-azene by reacting benzenediazonium chloride with sodium di-(trimethylsilyl)amide they found a faintly yellow compound if the reaction was carried out at -78 °C and an orange form at — 20 °C. NMR spectra were consistent with (Z)/( )-stereoiso-merism. Measurement of the isomerization rates at various temperatures in ether and in pentane indicates that the mechanism involves an inversion transition state (13.5) and not a rotation, because the free reaction enthalpies are independent of the polarity of the solvent. [Pg.386]

Formation of sodium l,3-dichloro-l,3,5-triazine-2,4-dione-6-oxide ( sodium di-chloroisocyanurate ) from an aqueous slurry of the trione, cyanuric acid and sodium hydroxide is accompanied by evolution of nitrogen trichloride. Nitrogen purging will keep the concentration of the explosive gas below the lower explosive limit of 5-6%. [Pg.383]

Nishioka et al. [525] coprecipitated nickel from seawater with sodium di-ethyldithiocarbamate, filtered, and redissolved the precipitate with nitric acid followed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrophotography determination of the nickel. The detection limit was 0.5 p,g/l and the relative standard deviation was 13.2% at the 2 ig/l level. [Pg.208]

Sodium valproate is sodium 2-propylpentanoate. It is also known as sodium dipropylacetic acid, sodium 2-propylvalerate, sodium dipro-pylacetate, sodium di-n-propylacetate, and by many slight variations of the particular nomenclature. [Pg.530]

Now 4 mol. are required to effect complete hydrolysis to sodium orthophosphate according to equation (c), but only 2 mol. are required either for the removal of fluorine alone and conversion into sodium di-isopropyl phosphate (d) or for conversion into disodium fluorophosphonate (e). To decide between these reactions, half of the above hydrolysis product was rendered acid to bromophenol Hue... [Pg.61]

A small portion of the hydrolysis solution was strongly acidified with concentrated nitric acid, and warm ammonium molybdate solution added. No visible change took place, and it was only after some minutes boiling that a yellow coloration was produced. This is good evidence against equation (c). Presumably sodium di-isopropyl phosphate requires to be broken down with boiling nitric acid before phosphoric acid is produced. [Pg.61]

As a consequence of the wide choice of hydride reagents the classical methods such as reduction with sodium in ethanol almost fell into oblivion [579, 520]. Nevertheless some old reductions were resuscitated. Sodium di-thionite was found to be an effective reducing agent [262], and the reduction by alcohols [309] was modified to cut down on the temperature [755] or the time required [527], or to furnish chiral alcohols ( in good yields and excellent optical purity ) by using optically active pentyl alcohol and its aluminum salt [522]. Formation of chiral alcohols by reduction of pro-chiral ketones is... [Pg.107]

The appearance of tubular myelin-like structures in swollen lecithin was observed by light microscopy well before the systematic investigation of liposomes [351-352]. Similarly, it was also demonstrated some time ago that the addition of calcium ions converted phospholipid liposomes to cochleate cylinders [353]. Subsequent studies have, however, revealed that the system is extremely complex. For example, examination of the phase-transition behavior of synthetic sodium di-n-dodecyl phosphate [(C12H2sO)2PO2Na+ or NaDDP] and calcium di-n-dodecyl phosphate [Ca(DDP)2] showed the presence of many diverse structures [354]. In particular, hydrated NaDDP crystals were shown to form lyotropic liquid-crystalline phases which transformed, upon heating to 50 °C, to myelin-like tubes. Structures of the tubes formed were found... [Pg.62]

A solution of Cp2TiCl [52] (0.43 g, 2 mmol) in THF was added dropwise to a solution of the epoxide (1.0 mmol) in 20 mL of THF at room temperature. A solution of 1A HC1 in ether (4 mL) was added, and the mixture was stirred for 10 min. The precipitated solid was removed and the filtrate was added to excess (5 mL) of aqueous saturated sodium di-hydrogenphosphate. The organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was extracted with ether. The product was isolated as a mixture of exo- and endo-Me isomers in 70% yield. The structures were confirmed by l3C-NMR, H-NMR, chemical shift correlation mapping, nOe measurements, and attached proton test (APT) experiments. No [a]D was recorded because the product was isolated as a mixture. [Pg.563]

The initial rate of polymerization of the inverse emulsion polymerization using sodium di-2-ethyl-hexyl sulfosuccinate (AOT) and sorbitan monooleat (SMO) as emulsifiers and an oil soluble azo initiator can be expressed by [13] ... [Pg.141]

It is interesting to note that azo compounds may be conveniently reduced either by a solution of tin(n) chloride in hydrochloric acid or by sodium di-thionite. Thus l-phenylazo-2-naphthol yields both aniline and l-amino-2-naphthol, and methyl orange gives p-amino-Af,Af-dimethylaniline and sulphanilic acid. [Pg.947]
