It probably is no coincidence that the peak of smoking among Americans was in 1963. In 1964, the U.S. Public Health Service s Smoking and Health Report of the Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General was published. It detailed the health hazards of cigarette smoking in a way then unprecedented in scope and persuasion.
