Slurry Reactors with Mechanical Agitation The catalyst may be retained in the vessel or it may flow out with the fluid and be separated from the fluid downstream. In comparison with trickle beds, high heat transfer is feasible, and the residence time can be made veiy great. Pressure drop is due to sparger friction and hydrostatic head. Filtering cost is a major item. [Pg.2120]

Figure 52 also shows that the actual recovery curve does not decrease below a certain level. This indicates that a certain amount of material is always recovered to the underflow and bypasses classification. If a comparison is made between the minimum recovery level of solids to the liquid that is recovered, they are found to be equal. Therefore it is assumed that a percent of all size fractions reports directly to the underflow as bypassed solids in equal proportion to the liquid split. Then each size fraction of the actual recovery curve is adjusted by an amount equal to the liquid recovery to produce the "corrected recovery" curve shown in Figure 52. As the Djoc point changes from one application to another, the recovery curves shift, along the horizontal axis. In order to determine a single graph which represents the corrected recovery curve, the particle size of each size fraction is divided by the Dj value and a "reduced recovery" curve can be plotted, as shown in Figure 53. Studies reported by Arterburn have shown that this curve remains constant over a wide range of cyclone diameters and operating conditions when applied to a slurry... Taking the slurry containing 6 wt % Si02 particles with a diameter of 30 nm, 1 wt % oxidizer and 2 wt % lubricant at pH 1.8 as an example, the surface features of the disk substrates polished in the slurry are shown in Table 4. For comparison, another kind of Si02 slurries with different particle size was conducted under the same conditions. The surfaces after polish with different slurries have different features. Ra and Wa decrease largely after polish in both slurries. Especially, the slurry with small particles exhibits lower Ra, Wa, but also lower MRR [ 108]. [Pg.256]

As shown in Fig. 39 [43], it is found that the surface before polishing is uneven and there are a large number of scratches (Fig. 39(a)). After polishing in the slurry I, the surface becomes smoother, and scratches as well as other micro defects could hardly be observed (Fig. 39(h)), by comparison with the surface polished in the slurry II (Fig. 39(c)). [Pg.256]

A number of handbooks and monographs are available with detailed descriptions of a variety of plant products and their use (Shahidi and Naczk, 1995). From a more practical point of view, an interlaboratory comparison between six university and industry laboratories of 17 extracts of spices, teas, coffees, and grape skin and of tomato peel slurry established within the framework of an EU sponsored programme, would be of interest (Schwarz et al, 2001). In this collaboration, detailed chemical analysis of the content of different phenolic compounds is compared with six antioxidant assays for the 17 extracts including different extraction procedures. [Pg.340]
