Slug dosing

Fail to check on water treatment - inadequate treatment and haphazard slug dosing can lead to poor performance, damage to associated equipment and failure to meet discharge requirements. 

The addition of a slug dose of a biologically effective amount of a quick-kill biocide. 

Most capsules are filled on piston-tamp machines. These are fully automatic fillers in which pistons or tamping pins lightly compress the individual doses of powders into plugs (sometimes referred to as slugs ) and eject the plugs into the empty capsule bodies. The compression forces are low, often in the range of 50 200 N, or about 50-100-fold less than typical tablet compression forces. Hence, the plugs frequently will have the consistency of very soft compacts and will not be able to be recovered intact from the filled capsule.

One of the first investigations to study the effect of gamma rays on expls was conducted in 1948 by the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as reported by Noyes and Goodman (Refs 21 23).
