Skill 19.5 Recognizing isomers of organic compounds, including stereoisomers. 

Isomers are molecules with the same molecular formula in which the atoms are arranged differently. There are two classes of chemical isomerism structural isomers and stereoisomers. 

Structural isomers have bonds attached in a different order from each other. Structural isomerism is also known as constitutional isomerism. The three types of structural isomers are described below. 

Stereoisomers have bonds attached in the same order but with different spatial arrangements. Stereoisomerism is also known as spatial isomerism, and there are two types of stereoisomers cis-trans isomers and enantiomers. Detailed naming rules for stereoisomers are an advanced topic.
