Fi ure 3.19. Steireoview of 10 minima of JV-methyl-acetamide bound to open end (S4 ) of the active sit 2 region of HIV protease by simulation with multiple fragments (189,190). Left pair for cross-eyed ani right pair for wall-eyed viewing. Used with permission. [Pg.109]

It has been calculated that many uranium rich ore dqx>sits 2 - 3 x 10 y ago must have been supercritical in the presence of moderating water. Therefore natural nuclear chain reactions may have had an important local influence on the early environment of earth. [Pg.540]

A similar apparatus, but without the advantage of the central ground joint is marketed under the name Buechner stable filter f (Fig. 11,35, 2, a) one method of use is shown in Fig. II, 35, 2, b. The Buechner stable filter is made of porcelain the filtrate is drawn off through a vacuum chamber below the perforated plate, the whole apparatus is supported by a cylindrical base, and sits firmly on the bench. The sizes of perforated plate available are 56, 91, 111, 126, 186, 241 and 308 mm. diameter respectively, and it would appear that these will... [Pg.134]

After drying or decomposing a sample, it should be cooled to room temperature in a desiccator to avoid the readsorption of moisture. A desiccator (Figure 2.9) is a closed container that isolates the sample from the atmosphere. A drying agent, called a desiccant, is placed in the bottom of the container. Typical desiccants include calcium chloride and silica gel. A perforated plate sits above the desiccant, providing a shelf for storing samples. Some desiccators are equipped with stopcocks that allow them to be evacuated. [Pg.29]

For the alkali metal doped Cgo compounds, charge transfer of one electron per M atom to the Cgo molecule occurs, resulting in M+ ions at the tetrahedral and/or octahedral symmetry interstices of the cubic Cgo host structure. For the composition MaCgg, the resulting metallic crystal has basically the fee structure (see Fig. 2). Within this structure the alkali metal ions can sit on either tetragonal symmetry (1/4,1/4,1/4) sites, which are twice as numerous as the octahedral (l/2,0,0) sites (referenced to a simple cubic coordinate system). The electron-poor alkali metal ions tend to lie adjacent to a C=C double... [Pg.44]

A flywheel of moment of inertia / sits in bearings that produee a frietional moment of C times the angular veloeity uj t) of the shaft as shown in Figure 2.7. Find the differential equation relating the applied torque T t) and the angular veloeity uj t). [Pg.19]

Also, when using cold processes on a downdraft table, the worker should avoid leaning over the working place or sitting too close to it, since this could disturb the flow into the exhaust and increase the spread of contaminants into the workspace. The same effects as when using fume cupboards could easily be the result (Section 10.2.3.3). [Pg.876]
