Sintering final

Typical ceramic materials produced on a co-rotating twin screw extruder are for example catalyst carriers. They are commonly shaped into granules for use as bulk material in reactors in the chemical industry or into honeycombs for catalytic converters in automobiles exhaust systems (Fig. 12). After extrusion, the catalyst carriers are cut oversized in the lineal direction, dried and then cut to the proper length. Afterwards the binder is removed and the carriers are calcinated or sintered. Finally, to provide them with catalytic properties, they are impregnated with an active film in a bath [Fri76]. [Pg.276]

Method A. In a 500 ml. round-bottomed flask, fitted with a reflux condenser attached to a gas trap (Fig. II, 13, 8), place 59 g. of succinic acid and 117-5 g. (107-5 ml.) of redistilled acetyl chloride. Reflux the mixture gently upon a water bath until all the acid dissolves (1-2 hours). Allow the solution to cool undisturbed and finally cool in ice. Collect the succinic anhydride, which separates in beautiful crystals, on a Buchner or sintered glass funnel, wash it with two 40 ml. portions of anhydrous ether, and dry in a vacuum desiccator. The yield of succinic anhydride, m.p. 118-119°, is 47 g. [Pg.375]

Pressing and sintering together determine the size and shape of the final product, but these are not well controlled with respect to the critical parts which determine the airgap in the magnetic circuit. For that reason a finishing touch by machining is necessary. [Pg.194]

Si ng. The desired size is obtained by a final pressing of a sintered compact. During sintering, the compact may have expanded, shmnk, or changed dimensions slightly, which is corrected by the sizing operation. [Pg.187]
