Wider single-carriageway roads are safer than standard width roads by 22%. 

Modern single-carriageway roads are safer by one third compared to traditional single carriageways. 

Seven schemes were implemented on single-carriageway roads, leading to an overall reduction in accidents of 55%, and a reduction in pedestrian accidents of 89%. 

A sewer connection for a new housing estate is to be made in an existing 4 m deep manhole. The manhole is 2 m from the kerbside on a 40 mph single carriageway road. The road opening notice specifies that the work must be carried out only between the hours of 9.30 am and 4.30 pm.

Modem roads are safer than roads opened before the mid-1980s due to improvements from widespread use of hard strips, safety fencing, wide single carriageways, and fewer and better designed junctions. 

Modem single-carriageway tmnk roads have an accident rate half that of traditional A class roads. 

A significant correlation exists between accidents and traffic flow, link length and farm accesses on single-carriageway rural roads.

The laying of a new water pipe involves excavating along and across an urban road. The width of the carriageway will be restricted to a single lane during the work and traffic flow in both directions is to be maintained.
