Criticality Precautions. The presence of a critical mass of Pu ia a container can result ia a fission chain reaction. Lethal amounts of gamma and neutron radiation are emitted, and a large amount of heat is produced. The assembly can simmer near critical or can make repeated critical excursions. The generation of heat results eventually ia an explosion which destroys the assembly. The quantity of Pu required for a critical mass depends on several factors the form and concentration of the Pu, the geometry of the system, the presence of moderators (water, hydrogen-rich compounds such as polyethylene, cadmium, etc), the proximity of neutron reflectors, the presence of nuclear poisons, and the potential iateraction with neighboring fissile systems (188). As Httle as 509 g of Pu(N02)4 solution at a concentration Pu of 33 g/L ia a spherical container, reflected by an infinite amount of water, is a critical mass (189,190). The application of pilot-operated PR valves is limited to clean services, where they are an acceptable alternative to the bellows valve if a balanced characteristic is required. Their particular advantage is freedom from "simmer", which may permit a closer operating pressure/set pressure margin than normal.

Elderberries can also be made into a tea. Simmer 1 teaspoon of dried or two teaspoons of fresh berries in I cup of water, covered, for 2 or 3 minutes. Mash the berries to extract their juice. Allow to sit another 5 minutes. Strain. 

There must be a good reason to use elder bark as a medicine because it is strongly purgative. It may be wise to consult with an herbalist first. To make tea from the bark, simmer 2 oz. of bark in I quart fresh cold water. Simmer until it is reduced by half. Strain. Take 2 to 4 oz. at a time. 

Simmer 1 cup of fresh or 1/2 cup dried elderberries in 3 cups of spring water add 1/8 tsp. powdered cloves, 1/4 tsp. powdered cinnamon and 1 inch of fresh chopped ginger root. Mash the berries with the water and spices and simmer at a low boil for 1/2 hour. Strain. Return the liquid to the cooking pot and... 

Simmer everything together until the mixture thickens. Pour into sterilized 1/2-pint canning jars, leaving 1/2-inch head room. Process in a water bath for 10 minutes if you wish to preserve the chutney. 

Place the above ingredients in a saucepan with water to cover. Put a lid on the saucepan and simmer for 45 minutes. 

Simmer some cinnamon Cinnamomum species) bark in 2 cups of water then add 1 tsp. of elder flowers or berries to make a warming tea on chilly days. 

In autumn, try simmering elderberry wine with warming spices such as cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Not only does it taste delicious and warm you when taken hot before bedtime, it benefits coughs, colds, flu, asthma and sore throats. A dash of lemon juice is also delicious in elderberry wine. 

Mash berries to extract the juice. Strain through several layers of cheesecloth or process through a food mill. Add the honey and cinnamon and simmer for 35 minutes. Add the lime juice. Cool. Add vodka. Pour into pretty bottles and cap. A shot of this before bed ensures a wonderful sleep ... 

Put 1 cup plain yogurt and 5 Tbsp. of elder blossoms in a pan. Simmer gently for 30 minutes. Turn off heat and allow to sit 5 hours. Reheat and add 3 Tbsp. honey. Whirl the mixture in a blender. Bottle, label and store in the refrigerator. This is deep cleansing and excellent for removing make-up. 

To make a spray to rid a plant of aphids or caterpillars, simmer 8 oz. of leaves in 1 quart of water for 30 minutes, stirring several times. Cool and strain out the herbs. Add 1 tsp. of dishwashing liquid and...
