Shrink Allowances

An easy method for estimating shrink allowance for injection molding is as follows ... [Pg.170]

Throughout the past 40 years, the industry has maintained Moore s law by shrinking the dimensions of the ICs components. At smaller dimensions, transistors switch faster and the density of transistors increases. Hence, shrinking allows the circuit to run faster and the circuit designer to add more functionality. A basic recipe for maintaining Moore s law is to release a new technology every 2 years that scales circuit dimensions by 30% (linear) and increases transistor... [Pg.655]

When the mould is hlled, the screw is held in the forward position or moves with a small displacement to maintain a holding pressure, during which time the material cools down and shrinks, allowing a little more material to enter the mold to compensate for volumetric shrinkage of the material. The packing phase is also called the holding phase. [Pg.2]

Preferably, aluminum castings are used with drilled or milled cooling channels. Care must be taken to clear the flash area to ensure that the fixture can close properly. The cavity dimensions must have reduced shrink allowances that is, the cavity of the fixture must be smaller than the blow cavity. [Pg.157]

The porous carbon rod is often the main pathway of escape for the gases formed in the cell. This pathway also allows ingress of oxygen to the cell limiting the shelf life of the system. The use of shrink tube outer wrapping and other devices have, however, improved the leakage property dramatically over prior generation cells. [Pg.522]

Wood While fairly inert chemically, wood is readily dehydrated by concentrated solutions and hence shrinks badly when subjected to the action of such solutions. It is also slowly hydrolvzed by acids and alkalies, especially when hot. In tank construction, if sufficient shrinkage once takes place to allow ctystals to form between the staves, it becomes very difficult to make the tank tight again. [Pg.2464]

An effective way of assembling a machine element such as a gear or pulley to a shaft is by shrink fitting. This involves setting up a radial pressure between a shaft with a slightly larger diameter than the inside diameter of the machine element, termed an interference fit. The part is heated to allow assembly and then on cooling the pressure on the inside diameter is established which maintains its ability to transmit torque from the shaft. [Pg.223]

Heating/cooling implies the application of heat, or the part is cooled to allow subsequent operations to be performed, for example heat shrinking. [Pg.344]

On slow-speed equipment, where the hub does not have to be removed for maintenance and integral hubs are not available from the supplier, a straight fit can be used with a reasonably heavy shrink—1.25 mil/ in. of diameter. Tolerances may allow this value to vary from 1.0 to 1.5 mil/in. of diameter however, 1.0 mil/in. may be loo loose for some applications, while 1.5 mil/in. over-stresses hubs at maximum bore sizes. In light of this, each application should be carefully evaluated if there is no experience at hand to use as a guide. Of course, field removal at the higher shrink fit is mnrv difficult. Keys should not be used. [Pg.335]
