Short introduction to rheology

This short introduction to rheology should provide enough background for further interpretation of polymer-dynamic theories of suspensions, polymer solutions and polymer melts. 

Basie introduction to rheology. This section provides a short description of the teehnology underlying a rheometer. Additionally, it includes some basic descriptions and characteristics of gel rheology. 

The handbook begins with a short introduction chapter 1) to the viscosity of everyday liquids, and shows the way in which rheology interacts with in-use situations which most of us come across in everyday life at home and work. Then a few chapters follow on the explanation of the different kinds deformation chapter 2) the use of graphs in general chapter 3j, and rheology graphs in particular chapter 4). A consideration of the simplest kind of liquid that we will meet comes next - the Newtonian liquid chapter Sj, and we then show how we can calculate its flow behaviour in lots of simple geometries chapters. ... 

The chapters in this book deal with specific research situations, firom both the experimental and theoretical points of view. To conceptually unify what appears to be a diverse collection of work on disparate systems, an overview chapter by William B. Russel serves as an introduction. This chapter reviews various phenomena such as flocculation, stabliliza-tion, phase separation, and rheology of colloidal particles in polymer solutions, which are all recognized as macroscopic manifestations of the short-range forces between polymer segments and colloid surfaces.
