Shen model

The papers [72,73] give experimental results that fit the theoretical Shen model described earlier [65]. The Cu nanocrystals of 2.5.nm implanted into the Si02 matrix were irradiated with zinc ions of 5 MeV at -197°C. It has been established that a relatively low radiation dose of 0.16 displacement per atom (dpa) causes amorphization of copper [72]. The copper nanocrystals having a little bit larger size of 8 nm were not amorphized after exposure to the radiation by a considerably larger dose [73],...

A pre-supernova model of a 9Mq star is taken from Nomoto [3], which forms a 1.38 Mq O-Ne-Mg core. We link this core to a one-dimensional implicit La-grangian hydrodynamic code with Newtonian gravity. The equation of state of nuclear matter (EOS) is taken from Shen et al. [4]. We find that a very weak explosion results, where no r-processing is expected. In order to examine the possible operation of the r-process in the explosion of this model, we artificially obtain an explosion with a typical energy of 1051 ergs by application of a multiplicative factor (= 1.6) to the shock-heating term in the energy equation.

The approach taken in the following section is to give a brief overview of the concepts used to describe theoretically SHG in reflection from an interface. It will begin with the general solution as developed by Shen [78] and Heinz [79]. This will be followed by extensions of the generalized theory to cubic media, of particular importance to much of the experimental work to be discussed. The section will conclude with a general overview of various theoretical models recently used to describe metallic interfaces on a microscopic level. Several of these studies will be discussed further in the experimental section where comparison with experiment is appropriate. 

In recent years, most rotational anisotropic data for both metals and semiconductors have been discussed in light of Tom s model [67, 68] and from the theory of Shen [78]. No assumption is made about the microscopic origin of the bulk and surface nonlinear polarization. This phenomenological model predicts a simple functional dependence of the SH intensity on the angle of rotation of the sample about the surface normal...
