Shedding rates

For reasons that will shortly become apparent, it is extremely unlikely that in a multi-slug system all solid slugs would start out having the same length And even if they did, any variations in velocity and particle-shedding rates, occurring for reasons discussed above, would certainly lead to irregular bed surface oscillation characteristics and /... [Pg.199]

Vortex-shedding flow meters typically provide 1% of flow rate accuracy over wide ranges on Hquid, gas, and steam service. Sizes are available from 25 to 200 mm. The advantages of no moving parts and linear digital output have resulted in wide usage in the measurement of steam, water, and other low viscosity Hquids. [Pg.64]

A fuel treatment system will effeetively eliminate eorrosion as a major problem, but the ash in the fuel plus the added magnesium does eause deposits in the turbine. Intermittent operation of 100 hours or less offers no problem, sinee the eharaeter of the deposit is sueh that most of it sheds upon refiring, and no speeial eleaning is required. However, the deposit does not reaeh a steady-state value with eontinuous operation and gradually plugs the first-stage nozzle area at a rate of between 5% and 12% per 100 hours. Thus, at present, residual oil use is limited to applieations where eontinuous operation of more than 1,000 hours is not required. [Pg.454]

Typical pore size distributions result in mean pore diameters of around 15 //m. Even long and intensive efforts did not succeed in decreasing this value decisively in order to enable production of micropo-rous pocketing material resistant to penetration [65, 66], In practice PVC separators prove themselves in starter batteries in climatically warmer areas, where the battery life is however noticeably reduced because of increased corrosion rates at elevated temperature and vibration due to the road condition. The failure modes are similar for all leaf separator versions shedding of positive active mass fills the mud room at the bottom of the container and leads to bottom shorts there, unless — which is the normal case — the grids of the positive electrodes are totally corroded beforehand. [Pg.265]

A recent investigation by Macomber (100) of the system where Rj = CH3, 126 (R2 and all other R = H), sheds additional light on the mechanism of homoallenic participation in solvolysis. In this case, the value of the integrated rate constant increased significantly throughout acetolysis, implying rearrangement to a system with comparable reactivity. The results were interpreted by means of an ion-pair mechanism shown in Scheme VII. [Pg.242]

The vibration induced by the fluid flowing over the tube bundle is caused principally by vortex shedding and turbulent buffeting. As fluid flows over a tube vortices are shed from the down-stream side which cause disturbances in the flow pattern and pressure distribution round the tube. Turbulent buffeting of tubes occurs at high flow-rates due to the intense turbulence at high Reynolds numbers. [Pg.654]

Other investigators have also found that parameters of neurobehavioral function are associated with tooth lead levels. A cross-sectional cohort of school children in first grade was ascertained in the city of Aarhus, Denmark (Hansen et al. 1989), where the population is very homogeneous with regard to ethnicity and language. A total of 2,412 children were contacted and asked to contribute a shed deciduous tooth. A total of 1,291 children responded (response rate = 54%). Lead was determined in the... [Pg.95]
