Shaped face

A complex phenomena that promotes the use of fat for energy (a positive effect) and permits fat stores to accumulate in the body, causing buffalo hump and moon- or round-shaped face (a negative effect).

Recently quasicrystals having the shape of a triacontahedron have been discovered in specially prepared alloys of aluminum and other metals. A triacontahedron is a regular polyhedron with 30 identical, diamond-shaped faces (Fig. 3.35). Quasicrystals seemingly defy the rules of symmetry that do not allow a periodic structure having unit cells with five-fold symmetry. What is the symmetry of a triacontahedron Can you make a model of it similar to the polyhedra given in Appendix H ... 

Only six students (31.6%) showed the molecules in a random orientation. But 57.9% of students drew the molecules without rotating the stencil, very much like a letter-type stencil would be used, where all the stencil shapes face in a particular (vertical) direction (see Fig. 2). These results are perhaps not surprising, since many textbooks illustrate the particle model of solids, liquids and gases using circles for particles. These structure-less particles cannot represent randomness of orientations of molecules with other shapes. 

Pb02 crystal particles, which are relatively small in size but are in contact with each other (Fig. 3.24(c)), or large crystallites with well-shaped faces, apexes, and edges. Clinical examination of patients injected with corticoid hormones or afflicted with corticosteroid hypersecretion reveals that the effect of corticosteroids on lipid metabolism cannot be simple. Excess corticosteroids are responsible for abnormal lipid distribution in some parts of the adipose tissue (cheek, subclavicu-lar, and thoracic pads), which explains the development of the moon-shaped face and the buffalo hump so typical of hypercorticosteroidism.

Activity The White board is a very used tool in regular classes. It is through its use that children are stimulated to write and participate in class. When the activity is associated to exercises in books/notebooks the board is used for visual memorization and orientation. Layout The desks are placed in a U-shape facing the White board. Aim To provide interaction between students and the board and to allow the teacher to move around easily among all the desks. Students still need to turn their heads to visualize the White board.
