Shallow curves

Since the deep and shallow curve of the MWD log and the deep, shallow and guard (laterolog) of the wireline log shows a departure, the zone 2274-2356 ft is invaded, consequently permeable. Using the dual induction chart of Figure 4-304, we can plot the point at 2290 ft ... [Pg.1010]

The EU TGD (EC 2003) recognized that the NOAEL is not very accurate with respect to the degree to which it corresponds with the (unknown) true NAEL. In the case of a steep curve the derived NOAEL can be considered as more reliable (the greater the slope, the greater the reduction in response to reduced doses) in the case of a shallow curve, the uncertainty in the derived NOAEL may be higher and this has to be taken into account in the assessment. If a LOAEL has to be used in the assessment, then this value can only be considered reliable in the case of a very steep curve. According to KEMI (2003), extrapolation factors of between 3-5 are used for LOAEL-to-NOAEL extrapolation without any scientific basis in risk assessment reports of existing substances within the European Union. [Pg.279]

Fig. E6.3a The synthesis of a hollow cylinder pump, (a) The building block (b) a rotating hollow cylinder forms the moving plane (c) the stationary plane is formed by the outer surface of a solid stationary shaft. A channel block separates inlet and outlet. Feeding and discharge are carried out through slits in the shaft leading to axial holes drilled in the shaft (d) the two surfaces that form a shallow curved channel are bounded by a sidewall or flight running along the circumference of the shaft. Agonists bind with higher affinity to the ternary complex than to the binary complex and in addition, stabilize and promote the formation of the ternary complex. The coexistence of these binary and ternary complexes in the membrane provide a molecular basis for the characteristic biphasic, shallow curve of agonist... [Pg.93]

The Mollier chart plots humidity (abscissa) against enthalpy (lines sloping diagonally from top left to bottom right). Lines of constant temperature are shallow curves at a small slope to the horizontal. The chart is nonorthogonal (no horizontal lines) and hence a little difficult to plot and interpret initially. However, the area of greatest interest is expanded, and they are therefore easy to read accurately. They tend to cover a wider... [Pg.1327]

The critical currents exhibited a similar behavior, as shown in Fig. 2 shallow curves for the sputtered samples and pronounced minima for the diffused ones. [Pg.438]

It should be pointed out, that although the relationship between distribution coefficient and methanol concentration is not linear, neither is it logarithmic a graph of log (distribution coefficient) against methanol concentration gives a shallow curve. In order to obtain an explicit function for the retention of a solute in terms of the original methanol concentration, it is necessary to determine the equilibrium constant for the association of water and methanol. This was carried out by Katz et al [7] using refractive index and density data for different methanol/water mixtures and an expression for the retention of the solute was proposed. [Pg.72]

The lower portion represents the rate constant of a unimolecular fragmentation of the ABCD+ radical cation as a function of internal energy the steep curve is for a direct cleavage reaction, and the shallow curve is for a rearrangement reaction. The SEC calibration curve shown in Figure 1.3 indicates how the separation of two peaks depends on their molecular mass and the slope of the calibration curve. Thus a smaller gradient (shallower curve) will increase the separation of... [Pg.7]

FIGURE 4.1.1.2 Dose-Response Curve to Estimate an LD50. This graph indicates the methodology for the determination of an LD50. Several data points are measured above and below the LD50 value, which is then determined graphically. The data are not always Unear, and the slopes of the plots can be steep or shallow. What are the safety implications of a steep, or shallow, curve ... [Pg.170]

Fig. 2 Normalized bead density profiles in the direction perpendicular to the air/water interface at T = 338 K. Results for the original Karaborni and Toxvaerd model and the improved force field are shown as solid and dotted lines, respectively. Thf left-hand pair of bead density profiles with a peak at z — 2.4 A are only for the carboxylic headgroups, the right-hand pair of curves are the bead density profiles for the terminal methyl groups, and the shallow curves depict the total density profiles summing over all beads, including the head and tail groups... Also shown is a comparison of the results of the impacts of a near field and a far field on the same sample. It will be seen that, as already outlined in the theoretical consideration, the shielding effectiveness is higher for the near-field radiation. The shallow curve that approximates to the results of the near-field measurements is a... [Pg.527]

The steep curves show the effect of successive OH substitution in alkyl ions and the shallow curves are for CH3 substitution therein.
