Shafts, rotating, sealing

The centrifugal compressor is composed of a casing containing a rotating element, rotor, which is supported by a set of bearings. For most multistage compressors, shaft end seals are located in-board of the bearings. 

As the pump shaft rotates, the shaft packing rotates with it due to friction. (In more complex mechanical seals, the shaft-packing element is secured to the rotating shaft by Allen screws.) There is also friction between the spring. 

A rotating seal ring (primary ring), mounted so that it can slide along the shaft to take up wear in the seal faces. 

To prevent leakage and loss of pressure, a seal must be made between the vessel and the rotating agitator shaft. This seal can be made either with a magnetic coupling or with a mechanical seal. 

Drive system to rotate the bowl including main bearing shaft with seals, etc., and motor for electric or hydraulic operation... 

As in all medium-pressure agglomerators that use rollers for the densification and extrusion of moist and/or plastic materials, the primary cause for roller rotation is friction between the roller surface and the material to be processed. The roller is mounted on a shaft with sealed antifriction bearings and is brought to close proximity...
