P.Y.154 is thus also a suitable shading component for other hues and may be used to tone reduced clean yellow and green shades. 

In terms of lightfastness, Alkali Blue performs moderately. 1/1 SD letterpress proof prints equal step 3 on the Blue Scale, while 1/3 to 1/25 SD formulations equal only step 2. However, as shading components their lightfastness is excellent and satisfies the requirements for all types of applications. This is due to the fact that a large portion of the incident light is absorbed by carbon black. 

Soluble sulfonated triarylmethane compounds are still used today as single dyes. They are brilliant blue, but with medium lightfastness. There are therefore often used in leather dye mixtures as shading components or as brightening dyes. 

Almost all basic dyes have been sulfonated, including Nigrosine Spirit Soluble (see Section 5.4.1) The sulfonated variant C./. Acid Black 2, 50420 [8005-03-6] is still applied to leather, mainly as a shading component for deep black.

Geometry plays a key role for the exterior skin of vehicles. Not all parts of the vehicle are irradiated by sunlight at the same angle. Some are even located in the shade due to the course of the sun, at least for some time. In the shade, components are no longer exposed to direct sunlight, but rather to diffuse solar radiation.
