Separation layer polyester resin

The separator is a vertical cylindrical vessel made from Werkstoff 4505 (comparable to STST316L but containing 2% Cu, 1.5% Nb and higher in H than 316L) or constructed of polyester resin reinforced with glass fibre. This is protected on the inside by a 3 mm layer of PVC, chemically bonded to the glass fibre. Although the latter separators are cheaper than the Werkstoff type, special skills would be needed to repair them if tMs became necessary. 

The surface of the model is covered with a uniform layer of clay or plasticine. The thickness of the spacing layer determines the thickness of the final mold. The next step is to build up a rigid layer on top of the spacer. This support is either poured (plaster or casting resin) or built up in layers by spreading the material (polyester, polyurethane or epoxy resin reinforced with fiberglass matting). Once the support has set, it is separated from the spacer, which is then discarded. The support, which must contain air-escape and feeding holes, is now fitted over the model. In some cases, silicone is as effective when blended into an adhesive formulation as when it is applied separately as a primer. For silicone-coupling agents, moisture adsorbed on the substrate plays an important role in attaching the silicone molecule through hydrolysis. The opposite end of the molecule contains a chemical group, such as a vinyl or amine, which is reactive with the epoxy, polyester, or another resin that is to be adhered to the substrate.
