Senecio longilobus (see also Pyrrolizidine alkaloids) Seneeiphylline... [Pg.558]

Life root Senecio longilobus Hepatic failure from hepatic veno-occlusive disease... [Pg.2907]

Many species of Senecio, such as Senecio jacobaea (ragwort) and Senecio longilobus (thread leaf groundsel), contain hepatotoxic amounts of pyrrolizidine alkaloids (which are covered in a separate monograph). Honey made from Senecio plants also contains pjrrolizidine alkaloids (32). [Pg.364]

Senecio longilobus collected in September, at and past the flower stage, yielded 0.058% of longilobine. [Pg.155]

Tussllago farfara Erechtltes hieracifolia Senecio longilobus aureus (Eupatoriae)... [Pg.368]

Ingestion of pyrrolizidine alkaloids is believed to be the cause of a number of cases of human veno-occlusive disease which have been reported in central India and in Arizona, U.S.A. In the latter study, consumption of herbal tea made from Senecio longilobus was shown to be the source of the disease. [Pg.65]

Cai et al. first used a chloroform-0.07 M sodium phosphate buffer (pH 6.4-6.5) solvent system for the separation of matrine and oxymatrine from Sophora flavescens, atropine, scopolamine, and hyoscyamine from Datura mete L. by HSCCC. Cooper et al. successfully used chloroform-0.2 M potassium phosphate buffer with an optimum pH value of each at 5.0, 5.6, 6.0, and 7.4 for the separation of pyrrolizidine alkaloids from various sources of Senecio douglasii var. longilobus, Trichodesma incanum, Symphytum spp. and Amsinckia tessellata, respectively. [Pg.1454]

A large-scale extraction apparatus, employing ion-exchange resins, has been used for extracting pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Senecio jacobaea. Isolation of platy-phylline and seneciphylline (36) by electrodialysis of an extract from 5. platyphyl-loides has been achieved by Russian workers. Purification of the alkaloidal mixture was aided by electrochemical reduction of the extract. H.p.l.c. has been used to separate alkaloidal extracts from S. vulgaris S. longilobus ( = S.douglasii), and S. jacobaea. The major alkaloids were identified by mass... [Pg.63]
