Self-cooling clothing

Examples of special self-cooling clothing are (1) an ice vest that consists of a light fitting vest with 60 small pockets of ice, and (2) a vinyl one-piece coverall with a built-in air distribution system that directs cool air against the body and exhausts warm air. The ice vest is used when mobility is important and the length of exposure is short. The body suit is used when a longer exposure time is necessary. Also, many sites require that an outside worker come into an air-conditioned area on some scheduled frequency and also take salt tablets or some form of electrolyte. [Pg.110]

A sprinkler system could have helped put out the fire at the initial stages, or at least cool down the warehouse stmctures. A heat- or smoke-activated chemical foam and fire alarm system could also have been installed in storage places. Materials for cleanup, self-contained breathing apparatus, protective clothing, and portable fire extinguishers should be available on-site. [Pg.800]

In the event of a lire, wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approvcd self-contained breathing apparatus with full facepiece operated in tlie pressure demand or other positive pressure mode. Use water spray to blanket (ire, cool fire exposed containers, and to flush non-ignitod spills or vapors away from fire. Vapors can flow along surfaces to distunt ignition source and flash back. [Pg.583]

FIRE Avoid contact with water. Keep storage containers cool with water. When fighting fires, wear suitable protective clothing (see above) and wear supplied air or self-contained breathing apparaturs. ... [Pg.23]

FIRE Cut off source cool with water supplied air or of material from fire, keep storage containers. Protective clothing, see above, including self contained breathing apparatus. ... [Pg.66]

If in a fire situation, keep cylinders cool with a water spray if possible. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus with a full face-piece operated in pressure-demand or other positive-pressure mode and full-body protective clothing. [8]... [Pg.497]

Silane will ignite spontaneously on contact with air. Any leaks will cause a fire and may form explosive mixtures with air. If a leak occurs, immediately evacuate all personnel from the danger area. Use a self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to shut off the leak if it can be done without risk. Immediately cool containers with water spray from the maximum possible distance. If the flow of gas cannot be shut off, allow the fire to burn out. [Pg.559]

FIRE-FIGHTING PROCEDURES Any tank or container surrounded by fire should be flooded with water for cooling. Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus,... [Pg.47]
