In 1975, the first successful production of MAbs was reported (44). By fusing normal antibody-producing cells with a B-ceU tumor (myeloma), hybridoma cell lines resulted which produced antibodies having a specificity to only one deterrninant on an antigen ie, all the antibodies produced from the cell line are identical. These studies resulted in a standard approach to MAb production. In this approach, the hybridoma cells are produced in large quantities in culture and screened to select specific clones producing the desired MAb using an appropriate assay. The selected clones are then expanded in culture (or in animals), the cells are collected, and the MAbs are extracted and purified. 

Fumaric acid and malic acid [6915-15-7] are produced from maleic anhydride. The primary use for fumaric acid is in the manufacture of paper siting products (see Papermaking additives). Fumaric acid is also used to acidify food as is malic acid. Malic acid is a particularly desirable acidulant in certain beverage selections, specifically those sweetened with the artificial sweetener aspartame [22839-47-0].

Arvin [9046-56-4] is a purified fraction from the cmde venom of Agkistrodon rhodostoma (48). The action of this venom fraction is selectively specific for fibrinogen and can rapidly deplete fibrinogen in vivo safely from the ckculating blood. Blood without fibrinogen cannot undergo clot formation. 

A multitude of analysis techniques and models have been developed to aid in performing these four steps (Figure 7). Many references exist for specific methods, and several recent publications give specific advice and how to details for the various techniques. You will not have to select specific techniques—your QRA team will do that. But you must appreciate the types of results available from each class of techniques. 

The last step in selecting specific sites is based on the following availability of land and electrical power, security from vandalism, absence of nearby structures such as large buildings, probe height (inlet >3 m), and cost.

Like broadband analysis, narrowband analysis also monitors the overall energy, but for a user-selected band of frequency components. The ability to select specific groups of frequencies, or narrowbands, increases the usefulness of the data. Evaluating costs (and benefits) and making the comparisons among alternative approaches must be an integral part of the process of selecting specific means and strategies, but such comparisons are beyond the scope of this report. 

In recent years several new instruments have been developed based on different mass-spectrometer principles. Two different categories of ICP-MS instruments are currently commercially available low-resolution instruments (using either QMS, ITMS or ToF-MS) and focusing high-resolution instruments (DFS, FTMS).
