Selection of Installation Contractors

Only after acceptance/approval has been obtained in writing from all necessary external and internal agencies should the installation begin. The failure to do so could result in delay of the project, major changes after the system has already been installed, or inadequate protection. The contractor would likely wish to pass any additional costs along to the owner. 

The project manager should assign either inspection staff for new facilities, the facility fire protection staff, or appropriate personnel at existing facilities the responsibility of monitoringthe activities of the contractor installingthe system. These duties should include  

Fire safety practices such as housekeeping, hot work permits, and elevated work should be in place during installation. The owner s representative should make periodic progress inspections to check for nonconformance issues and good work practices.
