Sebacic acid methyl hydrogen ester

By increasing the molar proportion of the monocarboxylic acid, the yield of (II) is improved. Thus electrolysis of a mixture of decanoic acid (n-decoic acid capric acid) (V) (2 mols) and methyl hydrogen adipate (VI) (1 mol) in anhydrous methanol in the presence of a little sodium methoxide gives, after hydrolysis of the esters formed, n-octadecane (VII), tetradecanoic or myristic acid (VIH) and sebacic acid (IX) ... [Pg.938]

Hexadecane-1 16-dicarboxylic acid. Dissolve 31 5 g. of methyl hydrogen sebacate in 140 ml. of absolute methanol to which 0-4 g. of sodium has been added. Electrolyse at 2-0 amps, until the pH of the electrolyte is 7-8-8-0 (3-5-4 hours). Work up as described for Sebacic acid. Upon distillation, an unsaturated ester passes over at 111-113°/ 20 mm. (4-6 g.), followed by dimethyl hexadecane-1 16-dicarboxylateat 212-219°/4 mm. (mainly at 214-215°/4 mm.), m.p. 56° (16-5 g.). [Pg.940]

Methyl hydrogen sebacate (b.p. 168-170°/3 mm.) was prepared by the checkers in yields of 52-61% from sebacic acid and methanol by the procedure described for the ethyl analog.1 The ethyl ester can be used to obtain ethyl sebacamate. The preparation of the acid chloride from ethyl hydrogen sebacate is mentioned in Note 12, page 21. [Pg.72]

R. is a versatile starting material for making ->soaps, ->turkey red oil, - textile auxiliaries, - sebacic acid, ricinenic acid and ->undecylenic acid. Esters are used in ->plastics additives.- Hydrogenation yields ->12-hydroxystearic acid. High pressure hydrogenation of the methyl ester is a possibility to produce ricinoleyl alcohol [540-11-4], Lit. Kirk-Othmer (4.) 5, 155 [141-22-0]... [Pg.245]
