Screening, goal

It is very important to understand the goal in an HTS screen because the screening goal has a very large impact on what types of compounds should be screened, on how many compounds should be screened, and how much the screening compounds might be expected to cost. 

During the following years, more than 30 scientists synthesized and screened several hundred compounds in the search for a compound which fulfilled the screening goal, namely to produce a drug with a better bioavailability than omeprazole.

U.S. Stockpile. A U.S. government stockpile goal for vanadium pentoxide of 6985 t contained vanadium was aimounced on May 1, 1980. This is equivalent to 12,470 t of V2O3. Validation versus Rectification The goal of both rectification and validation is the detecI ion and identification of measurements that contain systematic error. Rectification is typically done simultaneously with reconciliation using the reconciliation resiilts to identify measurements that potentially contain systematic error. Vahdation typically rehes only on other measurements and operating information. Consequently, vahdation is preferred when measurements and their supporting information are hmited. Further, prior screening of measurements limits the possibihty that the systematic errors will go undetected in the rectification step and subsequently be incorporated into any conclusions drawn during the interpretation step.

Traditionally, organic compounds have been synthesized one at a time. This works well for prepar- ing large amounts of a few substances, but it 1 doesn t work so well for preparing small amounts of 1 a great many substances. This latter goal is particu- larlv important in the pharmaceutical industry, w here vast numbers of structurally similar com-< pounds must be screened to find the optimum drug J candidate.
