Scheduling tools

The addition of predictive maintenance techniques as an outage-scheduling tool reduced the outage to five days and resulted in a total savings of 200,000. The predictive maintenance data eliminated the need for many of the repairs that would normally have been included in the maintenance outage. Based on the ball mill s actual condition, these repairs were not needed. The additional ability to schedule the required repairs, gather required tools and plan the work reduced the time required from three weeks to five days. [Pg.797]

Software tools do not require validation if they are incidental to the creation of regulated records that are subsequently maintained in traditional paper-based systems. Examples include word processors that essentially act as typewriters, and project scheduling tools that do not have a regulatory dimension. Software that provides record storage and retrieval facilities for incidental records would be treated like traditional file cabinets. Overall reliability and trustworthiness would derive primarily from well-established and generally accepted procedures and control for paper records. [Pg.100]

As used practically by schedulers in industry, and as capmred in common project scheduling tools, dependence amongst activities is represented as precedence relationships e.g. a task s start can begin only after another task finishes. As part of creating sequence and duration of a chain of activities, each dependence becomes a sequential relationship between a milestone in one activity with a milestone in another activity [6, 7]. The most frequently used dependencies relate the sequence of start and finish milestones [e.g. Finish to start (FS)]. If a precedent constraint is not precisely the point in time after which one milestone may follow another, a lag or delay can be characterized. [Pg.201]

The tool allows simple scale-up or capacity calculations to be performed and generates a complete mass balance of the chemistry under consideration. Aspen Batch Plus is also used as a scheduling tool, in order to identify potential bottlenecks. [Pg.1089]

Scheduling with your internal managers ( customers ) will reduce false starts. Using good scheduling tools and communicating your planned schedule will reduce scheduling conflicts with production, operations, and other customer-planned activities. Follow these simple steps ... [Pg.26]

This chapter has described the design and implementation of CSTEP, the Workbench scheduling tool. CSTEP was designed for speed and flexibility and supports scheduling with resource constraints and interface timing constraints. [Pg.132]

To maintain perspective, recognize that you have other tools for the scheduling aspect of projects, that is, for Element 5 Milestones/Schedule introduced in Chapter 5.1 am not advocating broad, across-the-board use of the CPM. In some situations, other scheduling tools may be more appropriate. Two common ones are discussed here. [Pg.197]

One positive aspect of the Gantt or bar chart method is its graphical nature, which aids the understanding of various users. Both technical and nontechnical personnel generally understand this project scheduling tool. A second advantage of the Gantt chart is that it depicts task overlaps, provided such overlaps are known or can be approximated. [Pg.198]

It is very abrasive and causes tools to wear out much faster than steel. Once the expected tool life has been established for a particular operation, establishing a program of scheduled tool replacement will permit maximum machining efficiency at minimum time and investment. [Pg.696]

Many plant schedulers use spreadsheets to aid with these tasks, but spreadsheets can be difficult to update and maintain, and they cannot comprehensively account for complex dependencies. Recipe-based scheduling tools greatly reduce the effort required for managing plants on a day-to-day basis. [Pg.228]
