Scattering asymmetry

Because the sense, or sign, of chiral asymmetry in the forward-backward electron scattering asymmetry depends on the helicity of the photon and of the molecule, it is essential that these variables are properly specified in any study to permit meaningful comparisons to be made. Discussing and comparing quantitative asymmetry factors, y [Eq. (8)] and dichroism [Eq. (9)] likewise requires agreement on the convention adopted in the definition of these terms. [Pg.324]

The relationship between the radius of gyration and the light-scattering asymmetry is also dependent on copolymer composition and is not the same as for homopolymers. Unless dn/dc is equal for both components, the spatial distribution of the component that scatters the most dominates the angular distribution of scattered light and thus the measured radius of gyration (158). [Pg.131]

For solutions of macroiiiolecules, whose size is commensurablo with A, internal interference contributes to the scattering asymmetry as well. Then (Debye et al., 1962b)... [Pg.345]

Anomalies of molecular light scattering, discovered in polyamidoacid and polyimide solutions in dimethylformamidc and dimethylacetamide al concentrations c > cv 0.5 g/dl (Diakonova el al., 1986) are apparently related to the presence of crystallites. The absence of scattering asymmetry (hs /Ivjs" 1-1) attests to the small sizes of those particles. [Pg.768]

Measurements of the right-left electron scattering asymmetry in coincidence with right- (or left-) hand circularly polarised photons gives... [Pg.437]

Whilst the first relationship, equation (5), has been confirmed experimentally the equality of the electron scattering asymmetry with the circular polarisation of the coincident photons has so far not been tested. However, Hermann and Hertel have performed a related experiment in which an electron scattering asymmetry was measured for super-elastic collisions with sodium atoms excited by circularly polarised laser light. [Pg.437]
