Shotgun sawed-off

The National Firearms Act of 1934 was rather modest by modern standards. It didn t actually outlaw machine guns or sawed-off shotguns, but it imposed a 200 tax on their manufacture, sale, and ownership—a rather high amount of money at that time. (Because they are short enough to conceal beneath a coat, sawed-off shotguns have long been considered a weapon of particular usefulness to criminals.) The law also required that purchasers of such weapons undergo an FBI bac%round check. 

The National Firearms Act of 1934 placed high taxes on the manufacturers, sellers, and purchasers of short-barreled guns such as sawed-off shotguns and carbines. 

In U.S. V. Miller the Supreme Court rejects an appeal by stating that it had been given no evidence that a sawed-off shotgun was suitable for use in a militia, and because it is not, carrying it would not be protected by the Second Amendment. Because the decision also implied an individual right to bear military-type arms, it would be cited by both supporters and opponents of gun control. 

That the foregoing cases conclusively establish that the Second Amendment has relation only to the right of the people to keep and bear arms for lawful purposes and does not conceivably relate to weapons of the type referred to in the National Firearms Act cannot be doubted. Sawed-off shotguns, sawed-off rifles and machine guns are clearly weapons which can have no legitimate use in the hands of private individuals. ... 

Firearms records are often created or altered after the start of an investigation of a suspected firearms dealer. Since certain types of weapons such as machine guns, grenades, sawed-off shotguns and others must be registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), proof of their legal registration must be presented. 

By 1997, David had undergone treatments to revert to the male gender, including testosterone injections, a double mastectomy, and two operations to construct a penis. He married a woman and became stepfather to her three children. His new life did not last. On May 4, 2004, at the age of 38, David committed suicide with a sawed-off shotgun. 

They are mainly sawed-off shotguns and zip-guns used by punks in holdups and for plain murder. Hardly weapons needed to resist tyranny.
