Saturates normal

Both aldehydes can be hydrogenated to their saturated normal alcohols. [Pg.405]

Histamine is synthesised by decarboxylation of histidine, its amino-acid precursor, by the specific enzyme histidine decarboxylase, which like glutaminic acid decarboxylase requires pyridoxal phosphate as co-factor. Histidine is a poor substrate for the L-amino-acid decarboxylase responsible for DA and NA synthesis. The synthesis of histamine in the brain can be increased by the administration of histidine, so its decarboxylase is presumably not saturated normally, but it can be inhibited by a fluoromethylhistidine. No high-affinity neuronal uptake has been demonstrated for histamine although after initial metabolism by histamine A-methyl transferase to 3-methylhistamine, it is deaminated by intraneuronal MAOb to 3-methylimidazole acetic acid (Fig. 13.4). A Ca +-dependent KCl-induced release of histamine has been demonstrated by microdialysis in the rat hypothalamus (Russell et al. 1990) but its overflow in some areas, such as the striatum, is neither increased by KCl nor reduced by tetradotoxin and probably comes from mast cells. [Pg.270]

Table 4.15 summarizes optimized bond lengths and NBO Lewis-like structures for 15 saturated normal-valent H MMH compounds (M = W-Pt) as well as corresponding hydrides of hypovalent Ta for comparison. The accuracy of the localized Lewis-like description (as measured by %pf) is found to be reasonably high both for normal-valent and for hypovalent species, typically >98% of the valence-shell density and >99.5% of the total density. [Pg.414]

Another procedure based only in part on the additivity properties of the values for AH and AS° is based on correlation equations for a series of homolog compounds or of compounds containing a repetitive unit (such as polymers). Since the compounds in a homolog series differ by the same fragment, it can be expected that the values in a series is linear The data used for generating the correlation equation can be either experimental or calculated values of a thermodynamic parameter. As an example, a set of experimental and calculated values for the heats of formation AHf for the series of saturated normal hydrocarbons CnH2n.,2 are plotted as a function of carbon number in Figure 2,2.4. [Pg.75]

Figure 2a shows the 13C NMR spectra of the following fractions of Kuwait crude total saturates, normal paraffins, and nonnormal paraffins. Figure 2b shows the corresponding spectra of isoparaffins and cycloparaffins. These fractions have been obtained from the scheme outlined in Figure 1. The spectra demonstrate the need for such detailed separation schemes, for the spectra of the total saturates are too detailed to allow any significant conclusions as to contributions from the various molecular types present. The smoke point of a fuel is an arbitrary scale related to the height of a flame of the fuel burning in a standard lamp without smoking. Some values are given in Table 4.4 and show that aromatic hydrocarbons have low smoke point values, whereas saturated normal alkanes have the highest smoke points. Additives such as ferrocene [Fe(C5Hs)2] increase the smoke point. Fuels that have low smoke points tend to deposit carbon during the combustion process. [Pg.61]

Much of the published literature concerning the detailed analysis of fatty acids of woody tissue is for a limited, but important, number of pulping species. Nevertheless, a large variety of saturated (normal, iso-, and antiiso-) and unsaturated fatty acids has been reported. In most cases, the predominating fatty acids are... [Pg.301]

At sufficiently low microwave powers, the spin-lattice relaxation processes are fast enough to maintain a thermal equilibrium population between magnetic energy levels. As the microwave power is increased the net upward rate of microwave-induced spin transitions from the lower to upper states is increased and eventually competes with the spin-lattice induced net downward rate. The spin populations in the two magnetic states become more equal and the ESR signal intensity decreases this is known as power saturation. Normally, one wants to use low enough microwave power to avoid power saturation. [Pg.130]
