Jams and jellies contain marked proportions of sugars (usually 50-70% including the dextrin Of any glucose used), which constitute almost the whole of the dry extract in jellies, whilst jams usually contain appreciable quantities of nOn-saccharine extractives (up to 5-6% or more). The amount of insoluble matter is appreciable in jams but negligible in jellies. In genuine products the ash usually varies from 0-2 to 0-4%, and the acidity varies with the nature of the fruit, but in unaltered products it should as a rule be neutralised by a few c.c. of N-alkali per too grams and should result wholly from fixed acids. [Pg.151]

Given the insolubility of indomethacin, a number of formulation approaches have been taken to improve the physical properties of this nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug substance. A 1 1 cocrystal was successfully prepared with saccharin using both solid-state dry grinding and... [Pg.384]

Elixirs are sweetened hydroalcoholic oral solutions that are specially formulated for oral use in infants and children. Digoxin, a non-ionizable cardiotonic glycoside, is practically insoluble in water and is solubilized in propylene glycol, 10% ethanol, flavor, sweetener, preservative, and buffers to 50pg/ml in Lanoxin Elixir Pediatric from which the oral bioavailability of digoxin is 70-85%. Phenobarbital, an anticonvulsant and sedative with an intrinsic water solubility of 1 mg/ml, is solubilized in water, 23% ethanol, glucose, sodium saccharin, and flavors to 3.5 mg/ml in Donnatal Elixir. [Pg.3349]

It is of interest that, in 1882, lime-water treatment of lactose was found to yield the insoluble calcium a -D-isosaccharinate, a rearrangement product of the n-glucose component, and, in 1896 and 1899, Lobry de Bruyn and Alberda van Ekenstein" observed that treatment of lactose with either lead hydroxide or potassium hydroxide liberated n-galactose. Kiliani established the structure of the saccharinate as that of a 3-deoxy-2-C-(hydroxymethyl)pentonic acid and, had the mechanism of its formation been understood (see p. 188), this would have been sufficient evidence... [Pg.163]

An alternative method involves a refined version of the Maumee process. Methyl anthranilate is initially diazotized to form 2-carbomethoxybenzenediazonium chloride sulfonation followed by oxidation then yields 2-carbomethoxybenzenesul-fonyl chloride. Amidation of this material, followed by acidification, forms insoluble acid saccharin. [Pg.639]

Syncal [Aqualon]. TM for synthetic sweetener, saccharin, including sodium and calcium salts and insoluble form, as well as several different particle size distributions. [Pg.1199]

Saccharin is a crystalline, virtually water-insoluble compound of mp 244°C. As its water-soluble sodium salt, it is used as a sweetening agent [112]. It is 300 to 500 times as sweet as saccharose, but has a bitter-metallic aftertaste. [Pg.164]
