S Mode

IR and Raman spectra of the NbS2X2 compounds have been measured, and assigned to the different modes (271). Especially in the absence of X-ray data, such measurements serve to prove the presence of S-S and Nb-S modes (see Table X). Magnetic data are available for... [Pg.367]

As illustrated by the spectra of P. furiosus 3Fe Fd shown in Fig. 8, the relative intensities of the Raman bands for [Fe3S4l clusters vary considerably with excitation wavelength. However, because of the extensive mixing of Fe-S and Fe-S modes, excitation profiles in the region 400-650 nm appear to be of little use in effecting electronic... [Pg.34]

It is Luther s mode of interpretation, however, that facilitated the development of his alchemical theosophy of Christ as the Ruah-Elohim, the quintessential Spirit of Nature and the creative Principle of alchemy. Metaphors of Christ as the philosopher s stone had been... [Pg.57]

The nonlocal results for C(F) are consistent with local calculations. Introducing softening of the, s-modes at short k only changes the undulative contribution to Cby 10-15%. [Pg.93]

All are tertiary halides so that attack by the S mode would not be expected to occur on (16) or (17) any more than it did on (8) (cf. p. 82). Sn2 attack from the back on the carbon atom carrying Br would in any case be prevented in (16) and (17) both sterically by their cagelike structure, and also by the impossibility of forcing their fairly rigid framework through transition states with the required planar distribution of bonds to the bridgehead carbon atom (cf. p. 84). Solvolysis via rate-limiting formation of the ion pair (SN1), as happens with (8) is... [Pg.86]

Mr. Belzoni availed himself of Dr. Young s mode of discovering the hieroglyphics, and has clearly detailed and made out the names of Pharaoh-nechoh and Psammathis in the paintings. [Pg.51]

The second step of the dose-response assessment is an extrapolation to lower dose levels, i.e., below the observable range. The purpose of low-dose extrapolation is to provide as much information as possible about risk in the range of doses below the observed data. The most versatile forms of low-dose extrapolation are dose-response models that characterize risk as a probability over a range of environmental exposure levels. Otherwise, default approaches for extrapolation below the observed data range should take into account considerations about the agent s mode of action at each tumor site. Mode-of-action information can suggest the likely shape of the dose-response curve at these lower doses. Both linear and nonlinear approaches are available. [Pg.309]

Thus, a synthetic source of promising allelochemicals is essential if we are to comprehensively study the agent s mode of activity and establish its basic structure-activity profile. The proposed work addresses this need. We will synthesize alleopathic natural products isolated from the sunflower (the heliannuols), and structurally related compounds, in optically pure form based on biomimetic phenol-epoxide cyclizations. The bioactivity of the targets and intermediates will be evaluated through laboratory tests on plant germination and growth. Bioassays will be performed on the synthetic intermediates to allow for the development of a preliminary structure-activity profile for these novel natural herbicides. [Pg.423]

The soft-mode spectra in the FE phase was investigated within the same study [ 19] and a well-defined peak (S-peak) was found at 150 cm for T Tc as the lowest frequency peak in the spectra. The frequency of S-mode decreases with the increase in pressure, indicating that the S-mode is the soft mode and that the phase transition is of the displacive type, which is in accordance with the proton-tunneling model. Furthermore, Raman scattering experiments on deuterated crystals showed the disappearance of the S-peak in DKDP [20]. Since this phenomenon can also be explained by the protontunneling model, it is taken as another important piece of evidence for this model. [Pg.156]

S-mode, which is not expected in the PE phase from symmetry considerations, together with the fact that the CP is much narrower in DKDP than in the KDP, suggests that the phase transition is much more order-disorder-hke in DKDP than in KDP. [Pg.158]

The results reported here indicate the potential for Bronopol (Myacide AS) as a preservative in mineral slurry systems. In particular, its ability to control organisms that are tolerant or resistant to other biocide chemistries is a valuable feature. Sondossi et alf" have reported on the activity of Bronopol against organisms that are resistant to formaldehyde. The results presented here indicate that this ability also covers BIT resistant organisms. The explanation for this may be related to some unique facet of Bronopol s mode of action and this fact is supported by published work. Overall, it suggests that Bronopol could be used in clean-up regimes to recover contaminated product. [Pg.131]
