Rylenes

Due to their high chemical stability, their high tendency to physisorb on silica, and their high fluorescence quantum yields, rylene dyes (27) and (28) (Scheme 6) were chosen as tags for the catalysts.65 They were shown not to influence the actual catalytic process. Known zirconium... [Pg.520]

The attachment of a distinct number of fluorescent dyes at the periphery of a stiff three-dimensional nanoparticle is of fundamental interest to study interactions between single chromophores in close vicinity to each other. We chose as a dye one of the rylene series, perylenemonoimide, for the decoration of our polyphenylene dendrimers due to their outstanding properties. Rylene dyes show an exceptional chemical and photochemical stability and therefore are well suited for single molecule spectroscopy (SMS) [661. [Pg.29]

Figure 2 Planar 7r-systems of representative conjugated molecules and polymers, and cr-conjugated polysilanes. Polyenes, acenes and rylenes have variable length. Polydiacetylenes, polythiophenes, polyparaphenylenevinylenes and polysilanes give families with similar backbones and different nonconjugated side groups. Hiickel model, which gives equal E(llBu). Since the transformation leads to expanded sites that contain two or three carbons, we expect smaller reduced Coulomb interactions in the PPP model. Standard parameters for expanded sites account for reduced in Table 4 for rylenes and places their E(21Ag) at higher energy,... [Pg.673]

When using a carbon electrode, the anodic oxidation of conjugated dienes (7) such as isoprene, pipe-rylene, cyclopentadiene and 1,3-cyclohexadiene in methanol or acetic acid mainly gives oxidative 1,4-addition products (8 equation 13). For example, 1,3-cyclohexadiene gives l,4-dimethoxycyclohex-2-ene (9) in 47% yield (equation 14). 1,3-Cyclooctadiene, in a similar experiment, yields a considerable amount of the allylically substituted product. [Pg.795]
