One example of a pulsed neutron source is to be found at ISIS, at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK. This source has the highest flux of any pulsed source in the world at present, and is therefore one of the most suitable for isotopic substitution work, as this class of experiment tends to be flux-limited. At ISIS, two stations are particularly well set up for the examination of liquids. [Pg.129]

CH would like to thank Daniel Bowron (CLRC, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory), Fred Mosselmanns (CLRC, Daresbury Laboratory), Will Pitner (The Queen s University of Belfast), Nick Terrill (CLRC, Daresbury Laboratory), and Philip Watson (University of Oregon) for contributing figures, as well as for useful discussions and comments in the preparation of this manuscript. [Pg.150]

More recently, pulsed neutron sources have been developed, such as ISIS, at Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory, UK. These sources use pulses of high energy protons to smash into a uranium target, releasing pulses of neutrons with a wide energy range. [Pg.202]

The microfabrication process was accomplished at CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Chilton, Didcot, Oxon, UK). The wafer was prepared at the Cardiff School of Engineering, Cardiff University, UK. Bar = 100 pm (b-d) platinum-coated silicon microneedles prepared using a wet-etch microfabrication process performed at the Tyndall National Institute, Cork, Ireland. The experiments were undertaken at the ISIS pulsed muon facility at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory situated near Oxford in England. Positive muons of energy 4 MeV and 100% spin polarized are brought to rest within a few tenths of a millimetre in powder or single-crystal samples mounted within a cryostat. [Pg.116]
