As mentioned before, the S—I cycle is able to achieve an energy efficiency of 50%, which makes it one of the most effective cycles among all H2O decomposition processes (Kar et al., 2012). There are three ongoing material research areas that are believed to be essential for the ultimate success of the S—I cycle (Russell George, 2008). The development of construction materials that can handle the corrosive environment for the lifetime of the process equipment, especially heat exchangers, boilers, and reactors, is the most important issue. The next two important areas involve gas-permeable membranes and catalyst development. Proper identification of suitable membranes and reaction catalysts is considered to improve the efficiency of the general cycle and make H2 production more economical. [Pg.225]

Two Bell Labs employees, Russell Ohl and George Southworth, were trying in the late 1930s to detect ultrahigh-frequency radio waves with vacuum tubes, and like Skinner on the other side of the Atlantic, had no success. So, Southworth, a radio ham since childhood, remembered his early silicon-and-cat s-whisker deviees and managed to retrieve some old ones from a seeondhand radio store. Just as they did... [Pg.257]

Writing about colors and visions seen under a psychedelic, Huxley addressed himself to the central questions. Once blinded, and thus especially appreciative, he reported that visual transformations can have resonance on other levels. He had expected to enter into "the kind of inner world described by Blake and AE. [George William Russell]. That wasn t what happened ... [Pg.239]
