Runway repairs

MAJOR APPLICATIONS Protective coatings (for appliance, automotive primers, pipes, etc.). Encapsulation of electrical and electronic devices. Adhesives. Bonding materials for dental uses. Replacement of welding and riveting in aircraft and automobiles. In composites for materials in space industry, printed circuitry, pressure vessels and pipes. Construction uses such as flooring, paving, and airport runway repair. [Pg.90]

Asphalts are used as insulation layers and coatings, but their use as binders in mixes with natural stone aggregate for road and runway pavements is the main application. The addition of sulphur (up to 50%) improves the penetration index and matrix-aggregate bond. In special cases, like pavement repair, asphalts may also be used in the form of emulsions and cutbacks. Tars are usually more expensive than asphalts and their application for road pavements may be considered as non-rational. [Pg.88]

There are several commercial rapid-setting cements used for the repair of airport runways and other eoneiete infrastructure where rapid setting and strength gain are mandated. These inelude magnesia-phosphate cements. [Pg.438]

They are appHed in bridge decking and airport runway apphcations, in repair applications, where the mortar layer can be as much as 5-8 cm thick, in industrial floor screeds, where up to a 5 cm layer is appHed over standard concrete, in fine screeds or patching compounds, where up to 1.5 cm of repair mortar is appHed on floors, in self-leveHng underlayments, where thickness from 2-3 cm to feather edging are common. [Pg.241]
