Rotation diameter

Diffusion on a circular track. Consider charges + q, — q at opposite ends of a rotating diameter of a fixed circle of diameter d. The rotating dipole qd has potential energy — qdE cos 6 when inclined at an e 6 to the direction of an electric field E (taken in the plane of the circle). The equilibrium density function Po( is then exp (qdE cos 6/kT) where 6 ranges from 0 to 277. Provided qEd kT we have approximately... [Pg.25]

One production line of a paper mill consists according the size and the quality of the produced paper sometimes from more than 50 steam drums to dry and flatten the produced paper. These drums (cylinders with flat bottoms, see figure 1) will be used with a steam pressure up to 500 kPa (5 bar) and additionally with a rotation speed up 1200 m.min the material is mainly grey cast iron (with lamellar graphite). The diameters can reach up to 2.2 m and the cylindrical lengths up to 10 m. For the specific flattening drums the cyhndrical diameters can be up to 5 m and more. [Pg.30]

In this work, a microwave interferometric method and apparatus for vibration measurements is described. The principle of operation is based on measurement of the phase of reflected electromagnetic wave changing due to vibration. The most important features of the method are as follows simultaneous measurement of tlie magnitude and frequency of the rotating object high measurement accuracy weak influence of the roll diameter, shape and distance to the object under test. Besides, tlie reflecting surface can be either metallic or non-metallic. Some technical characteristics are given. [Pg.654]

Wagner and DUlont have described a low-shear viscometer in which the inside diameter of the outer, stationary cylinder is 30 mm and the outside diameter of the inner, rotating cylinder is 28 mm the rotor is driven by an electromagnet. The device operates at 135°C and was found to be free of wobble and turbulence for shear rates between 3 and 8 sec V The conversion of Eq. (2.7) to Eq. (2.9) shows that F/A = (i7)(dv/dr) (instrument constant) for these instruments Evaluate the instrument constant for this viscometer. [Pg.128]

We designate the length of the ellipsoid along the axis of rotation as 2a and the equatorial diameter as 2b to define the axial ratio a/b which characterizes the ellipticity of the particle. By this definition, a/b > 1 corresponds to prolate ellipsoids, and a/b < 1 to oblate ellipsoids. [Pg.595]

The first polyatomic molecule was detected in 1968 with use of a telescope having a dish 6.3 m in diameter at Hat Creek, California, USA, designed to operate in the millimetre wave region. Emission lines were found in the 1.25 cm wavelength region due to NH3. The transitions are not rotational but are between the very closely spaced 2 = 0 and 2 = 1 levels of the inversion vibration V2 (see Section 6.2.5.4). [Pg.120]

The rotating-disk contactor (RDC), developed in the Netherlands (158) in 1951, uses the shearing action of a rapidly rotating disk to interdisperse the phases (Eig. 15b). These contactors have been used widely throughout the world, particularly in the petrochemical industry for furfural [98-01-1] and SO2 extraction, propane deasphalting, sulfolane [126-33-0] extraction for separation of aromatics, and caprolactam (qv) [105-60-2] purification. Columns up to 4.27 m in diameter are in service. An extensive study (159) has provided an excellent theoretical framework for scale-up. A design manual has also been compiled (160). Detailed descriptions and design criteria for the RDC may also be found (161). [Pg.76]

Cake discharge occurs at atmospheric pressure by the action of a toU or a scraper, assisted by blowback. The cloth may be washed by a spray before the cycle starts again. Filtering areas range up to 8 m and dmm diameters up to 2 meters. The necessity for large seals limits the operating pressure to less than 300 kPa, typically. Cake thickness can be from 2 to 150 mm, depending on machine size, and the speed of dmm rotation up to 2 rpm, usually from 0.3 to 1 rpm. Apphcations occur in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, edible oils, and various chemicals and minerals. [Pg.407]
