For rotating shelf or disk dryers, the wet solid is supported on circular trays that rotate slowly in a fixed housing. The trays or shelves are cut out in the center and have radial slots. In the TURBO-DRYER version, the shelves are mounted rigidly to a single vertical shaft. The fan assembly fits within the shaft assembly and can rotate independently of the shaft. Hot air or another drying medium is fed from suitably designed air distributors mounted on the side and is exhausted from the roof.

The handling of sticky materials can present difficulties, and one type of dryer which is useful for this type of material is the turbo-dryer. As shown in Figure 16.30, wet solid is fed in a thin layer to the top member of a series of annular shelves each made of a number of segmental plates with slots between them. These shelves rotate and, by means of suitably placed arms, the material is pushed through a slot on to a shelf below. After repeated movements, the solid leaves at the bottom of the dryer. The shelves are heated by a row of steam pipes, and in the centre there are three or more fans which suck the hot air over the material and remove it at the top. 

A standard procedure for manufacturing liposomes is the film-forming method where the phospholipids are dissolved in an organic solvent. By rotational evaporation of the solvent a thin, multilayered film of phospholipids arises at the inner wall of the vessel. Redispersion of this film in water or aqueous buffer results in the formation of vesieles. The size of these vesicles and the number of bilayers vary. Henee further manufaeturing steps have to follow to obtain defined vesieular dispersions with a suffieiently long shelf life. 

Stock Rotation and Bottled Goods Library. Chronological samples from each bottling should be stored under simulated store shelf conditions and an examination for microbial growth, color, or stability change after 1 week, 2 months, 6 months, and 2 years should be made. Tasting confirms or denies any apparent problem.
