Rosenberg, Barnett

Two milestones in chemistry may be addressed to the geometric isomers of diamminedichloroplatinum(II). About 100 years ago Alfred Werner laid down the principles of modem coordination chemistry with the help of isomeric [PtCl2(NH3)2] [1]. About 70 years later Barnett Rosenberg and co-workers discovered that the cis isomer is antitumor active, whereas the trans isomer is not [2,3]. Today m-[PtCl2(NH3)2] (cisplatin) is routinely used as a drug, particularly effective against testicular and ovarian cancer [4],... [Pg.166]

I wish to thank Professors T. J. Lewis, Barnett Rosenberg and John M. Thomas for stimulating and maintaining my interest in the electrical properties of organic solids and to many colleagues and co-workers past and present for helpful discussions. My thanks go also to Dr David E. Parry for his critical reading of the manuscript, to Mrs D. Jones and Mrs I. Jones for assistance in its preparation and to the Science Research Council for supporting part of my contributions to the subject. [Pg.230]

Professor Barnett Rosenberg, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry (since January 1, 1997), Michigan State University currently President and Director of Research, Barros Research Institute. [Pg.6]

The landmark discovery of the antitumor activity of m-diamminc-dichloroplatinum(II) (m-CNFFFPtCh, cisplatin, d.v-DDP) by Barnett Rosenberg, first reported in 1969 in Nature, was an extremely fortunate one for a number of reasons. [Pg.567]

Barnett Rosenberg, in 1969, serendipitously discovered the cytotoxic effects of cw-platin, Figure 1.11, a complex studied in Chapter 6. The area of metals in medicine has grown so rapidly that new journals and conferences dedicated solely to this topic now flourish. [Pg.13]

I have no words of wisdom. .. I simply do my damndest (Barnett Rosenberg, 2005)... [Pg.140]

Cisplatin was discovered serendipitously in 1965 while Barnett Rosenberg (Figure 1.27) and Loretta Van Camp (Michigan State University, USA) were studying the effect of an electric current on E. coli. [Pg.28]

Barnett Rosenberg, at Michigan State University, isolates cis-platin and establishes its anticancer role (first hinted at in 1963)... [Pg.225]
